It’s been announced that singer Will Young is to be the first pop act to perform an open-air concert at HM The Queen’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, later this year. Young will be the first non-classical act to perform at the prestigious venue.
Young shot to fame in 2002 as the winner of the first-ever Pop Idol series, with his subsequent first single, the double A-side ‘Evergreen’ and ‘Anything Is Possible’, selling nearly half a million copies on the first day of its release and over 1.1million copies in its first week, making it the UK’s biggest selling record of the decade.
At the same time, he came out as gay, although it did nothing to dent his popularity. As of December ’09, he had more weeks at No.1 on the official UK singles chart, than any other solo artist in the 2000s. Young has released five albums which produced several hit singles, including ‘Light My Fire’, ‘All Time Love’ and ‘Leave Right Now’.
Having toured theatres and concert halls across the UK in 2008 and 2009, along with having performed several special performances, such as Elton John’s Live New Year Show at the O2 arena in 2008, Will Young will undertake his first series of selective outdoor summer concerts this year, including this performance at Sandringham.
The concert will take place on Saturday, 7 August. For more information or to book tickets, visit www.ticketeast.co.uk, or call 0871 224 1112/0871 224 1113.
