56 Dean Street wants your help

56deanstreetlogoGroundbreaking sexual health clinic 56 Dean Street in London is launching the second phase of its ‘Community Campaign’. Earlier in the year, the team at the clinic appealed to members of the gay community to come up with a new, hard-hitting advertising image that would remind gay men about the importance of testing regularly for HIV. A shortlist was drawn up, and then members of the public voted for their favourite via the 56 Dean Street Community Campaign Facebook page. The winner of the first phase of the campaign graphic designer Ryan Arya, who came up with an image (pictured) to remind gay men that someone who has HIV but remains undiagnosed stands a far greater chance of dying from AIDS-related illness.
Future phases of the campaign are aiming to provide awareness messages such as:
• Studies show that less than a quarter of gay men have tested in the last 12 months
• Eighty percent of HIV is caught from someone who doesn’t know they have it
• There’s a really high chance that a person has recently caught HIV if they have these 3 things at the same time:
* Fever

* Rash

* Sore throat

Dr Alan McOwan, service director at 56 Dean Street said, “There is new information about how HIV gets transmitted in gay men. The healthcare system’s biggest challenge is getting this information across to the people that need to hear it in the most effective way possible. We want the community to help us explain these facts to people.”
Entrants are asked to submit their ideas suitable for an A4 print advertisement.
Once again finalists will be shortlisted by the Community Campaign’s expert panel and the finalists’ entries will be displayed on Facebook and taken to a public vote, with the winning advertisement appearing in print and online.
Submission for entries is open now, and will close on the 15th February 2013. The public vote will open in March 2013 to decide the overall winner. The winning campaign will run during April-June 2013.
