The Last Session

thelastsessionEnjoy some acclaimed musical theatre, catch some stellar talent in an intimate setting, and help to donate to a good cause all at the same time. Running from now until 27 October 2012 at the tiny Tristan Bates Theatre (The Actor’s Centre, Covent Garden, London WC2) is the European premiere run of The Last Session. The production stars Darren Day, and collections at the show are being donated to the HIV-related Make A Difference Trust.
“Set in a recording studio in 1996, singer/songwriter, Gideon [Day] is tired of being ill and ready to give up. He’s holding one last session to record the most important album of his life. To show his undying love to his partner, he plans to record a musical letter of farewell. For this last session, he reunites with some old friends and is joined by an unexpected visitor, who shares Gideon’s Christian faith and for whom Gideon’s sexuality changes everything. The Last Session tells Gideon’s story: of faith, love and hope and of the search for a reason to go on in the face of pain, indignity and adversity.”
Partly based on composer Steve Schalchlin’s own experiences, The Last Session was written in an era when AIDS was a terrifying and growing epidemic. This landmark musical originated Off‐Broadway and features a surging score of blues, rock and gospel.
At each performance of the show, there will be a collection in aid of the Make A Difference Trust (MAD) – an organization set up initially to respond to the impact of HIV on the theatre community, and which has, over the years, supported many thousands of individuals (http://www.madtrust.org.uk).
