Running to make a difference

jeremyjosephThe London Marathon is set to take place on Sunday (22 Apr), with thousands of runners competing and raising money for charity. Taking part are many LGBT runners, with money being raised for a wide variety of good causes. Running for the third consecutive year G-A-Y promoter Jeremy Joseph (pictured), who will again be raising funds for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Building on the money he raised last year, Jeremy has set his target this year to be £150,000 – and he needs a little more help to hit his goal! At the time of going to press, he’d raised £132,985. To sponsor him, either go to www.justgiving.com/G-A-Y or simply text EJAF69 £2 to 70070 (to donate £2 – or you can change the amount to £1, £3, £5 or £10)
Jeremy will also be helping to raise awareness around HIV in the UK, with a mid-Marathon balloon release. There will be seven balloon releases across the course, each of 26 balloons (each balloon representing 500 people infected in the UK with HIV). Three Quarters of the balloons will be yellow, to represent those who have been diagnosed with HIV, and a quarter will be red to represent those who are HIV but who don’t know it. The number of people living in the UK is around 91,500.
Also running in the marathon will be Suran Dickson, the CEO of the recently launched charity Diversity Role Models (DRM) – an organization that seeks to provide positice LGBT role models to young people through outreach work in schools. To sponsor Suran and donate money to DRM, go to http://www.charitygiving.co.uk/surandickson
