Stonewall summer party a 20K success

stonewallsummerEqual rights charity Stonewall hosted over 350 guests and raised £20K at its annual Summer Party on Friday 17 June.

The event took place at the Roof Gardens in London’s Kensington. It was supported by Square Peg Media (publishers of Out In The City) and Societe Generale. The money raised from the event went towards Stonewall’s Education for All campaign, which aims to tackle homophobia in schools.

Gaydar unveils re-design

Agaydarward-winning gay social website GAYDAR.CO.UK is in the process of a major re-design. The UK’s most popular gay dating website (according to Hitwise/Experian) has given itself a makeover, ensuring it’s easier for its six million members to find ‘what you want, when you want it.’

Gay Men's Chorus summer concert

gaymenschorusEurope’s largest and best known gay choir, The London Gay Men’s Chorus, are busy rehearsing their next show. Sound will be the boys’ flagship summer concert, and it will take place at the beautiful and iconic Union Chapel in Islington on the 24th and 25th June.

Sound focuses on the development of music’s fundamental component – and promises an aural adventure through 400 years of amazing music. It’s going to be an extraordinary musical journey through a broad spectrum of international vocal and choral genres from classical, jazz, pop, world, gospel, folk and more. 

Gay kiss-in outside Soho pub

johnsnow1Several hundred protestors gathered outside the John Snow pub on Broadwick Street, Soho, on the evening of Friday 15 April, to protest against an incident that took place in the pub a couple of nights earlier. A couple of gay men – James Bull, aged 23, and Jonathan Williams, aged 26 – had been out on their first date together. They followed dinner in Covent Garden with a drink at the John Snow – not a gay bar but a well-known Soho pub in one of London’s most gay-friendly areas. The two say that they had kissed, but had been asked to stop by a man at the bar who said that he found it offensive. 

Man sought in connection with East End stickers

doyouknowBritish Transport Police (BTP) have released a CCTV image of a man that they wish to identify as part of their ongoing investigation into a number of homophobic stickers which have been put up around east London.

The stickers, found at various locations over the past two months, feature a rainbow flag with a red line through it with the message ‘gay free zone’.
BTP Detective Constable Elaine Sexton, of the Public Protection Unit, said, “We are working together with the Metropolitan Police, and have been conducting local enquiries across east London in a bid to identify those responsible for these stickers.
